  1. In Cars Done By Ong Ka-Shing Huang Zhang Shengxi Cao Wei Safety Features

  2. What should we have • Safety Seat belts • Air Bags • Anti Lock Brakes • Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

  3. Safety Seat belts • A must-have feature in cars • Protects the passenger from harm by reducing inertia • Secure the occupant against harmful movement that may result from a collision or a sudden stop.

  4. Stops the wearer from hitting hard interior elements of the vehicle, or other passengers • Newton’s third law: -If object A exerts a force on object B, object B will exert an equal force on object A • Hence, seat belts will exert a same force back on the passenger when passenger is thrown forward in the accident. • Thus protect the passenger.

  5. Air Bags • one of the most necessary features in crash • protect the occupants’ faces and heads from striking the interior car parts. • in a head-on crash special sensors need only 1\20th of a second to fit the bag

  6. It inflates when the car decelerates extremely quickly • results in a decrease of force acting on the passenger. • With the aid of seat belts, both can achieve high-level safety

  7. Anti Lock Brake(ABS) • prevent a car's wheels from locking during panic braking.  • It allows the car to slow in a more controlled manner, • the driver can thus maintain better steering control and avoid an accident. • Improves vehicle control

  8. There are four main components to an ABS: -speed sensors, valves, a pump, and a controller. • When the ABS system is in operation the driver will feel a pulsing in the brake pedal • this comes from the rapid opening and closing of the valves.

  9. Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems • Use a warning light on the dashboard to alert the driver when a tire is significantly under-inflated.  • As tires in this condition are much more prone to tire failure (a blow out).  • Standard for this warning: -when the tire pressure is 25% below the tire manufacturer's recommended inflation pressure. • Prevent possible accident from occurring
