Wasley, Chief of Police April 8, 2014 • Bicycle Theft On Campus • There has been a recent trend of bicycle thefts occurring around campus, specifically at Bike Racks at various academic buildings as well as in the housing area. This information bulletin is a reminder to keep your bicycle safe.Our data shows that bicycle thefts occur in the early/late afternoon hours. Stated below are preventive measures you can take to help protect your bicycle.   • Preventive Measures • If possible, park your bike in the Bicycle Barn • Park your bicycle in a well-lit area, high pedestrian area • Use hardened locks (padlocks) and chains (alloy steel) when locking your bike • Use small “U” locks, Do Not Use CABLE LOCKS • Take a piece of your bike with you, i.e. seat, or tire • Make sure the locks on your bike are secured • Register your bike with the National Bike Registry • Download “Preventing Bike Theft” brochure from our web site. www.sfsu.edu/~upd If you have any information regarding these recent thefts or would like additional information, please call the San Francisco State University Police Department (415) 338-7200.
