Session Objectives: Ableism,Ageism and Adultism • TSPC (a) Learner Development: The teacher understands how children learn, grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences. [InTASC Standard #1] • TESOL STANDARD #3: PLANNING, IMPLEMENTING, AND MANAGING INSTRUCTION Candidates know, understand, and use standards-based practices and strategies related to planning, implementing, and managing ESL and content instruction, including classroom organization, teaching strategies for developing and integrating language skills, and choosing and adapting classroom resources.

The "Friends First" program gives students with disabilities and those without, the chance to form a club, establish friendships and work collaboratively on a service project of their choice to benefit their school or community. • The "Friends First" program has three main components to it. The first is to form an official club at the participating school • The second component is social. Going to school can be a lonely and isolating experience for students with disabilities who often feel separate from their typically developing peers. • The third element of this program is a service learning component. The students involved in the "Friends First" club select a service project they think will benefit their school or community.
