  1. September 13, 2013 • First HOME assignment • Multiple View Still Life • Journal Break Intro • If time, paint out a page or 2. Glue some pages together…

  2. Breadth #4@HOME project! • Multiple View Still Life Object • 3 thumbnails due 9/16 • Draft due 9/18 • 1st Submission (75% or more completed) 9/23 • Materials • Student choice • Suggestions: Drawing pencils, oil pastel, charcoal • Limit your colors if you use color if you choose color materials! • Consider the surface of the paper. Is it plain or do you give it an overall “treatment” to layer on top of (watercolor??) • Size • Student choice: Between 16”x20” and 11”x14”

  3. Divide up your paper into 7-9 parts (rectangles and squares are fine) • Vary the sizes of rectangles GREATLY • If you want to throw in a more unusual shape, surprise us • Think of these as frames. • Are the edges straight? Torn looking? Angled? Thick? Thin? Implied? Transparent? • You don’t have to use a ruler! Hand drawn straight edges edges can be very beautiful and have lots of personality! • Avoid having the biggest frame right in the middle!

  4. Choose a more complex object

  5. Draw that object from all different views/angles. Each view will be in one of the spaces you drew out on your paper • Close up • Far away • From the top • From the bottom • From the sides • All variations!

  6. Have at least 6 different views • This will depend on your COMPOSITION plans. • You might need more than 6… • You might not need all 6 later, but you MUST have at least 6 to start off with. This is not really a complex object but the painting technique is unusual!

  7. Notice! • Not every frame has the object in it. • Free space can be lovely when put in the right place. • Limited color choices

  8. You can get more complex with your “frame designs”…

  9. You can get creative with what surface you draw each angle on. (you can cut and paste these together later)

  10. This assignment can be found online at www.schurzhs.org • You will not get a print out of this. • Find this class under Academics-Homework and check it out.
