  2. Affirmative / Negative Words • Here are some affirmative and negative words that you already know. Remember they are ANTONYMS.

  3. Affirmative Words • alguien • algo • alguno, alguna (pronoun) • algún, alguna (adj.) • siempre • también • o…o

  4. Negative Words • nadie • nada • ninguno, ninguna (pronoun) • ningún, ninguna (adj.) • nunca • tampoco • ni…ni

  5. Affirmative / Negative Words • Alguno (a) and ninguno (a) have different forms before masculine singular nouns. • alguno > algún • ¿Quieres algún filete? (adj.) • Do you want some steak? • Sí, quiero alguno. (pron.) • Yes, I want some.

  6. Affirmative / Negative Words • Ninguno > Ningún • ¿Quieres algún filete? (adj.) • Do you want some steak? • No, no quiero ningún plato con carne. (adj.) • No I do not want any dish with meat. –OR- • No, no quiero ninguno (pron.) • No, I do not want any.

  7. Affirmative / Negative Words • Affirmative words usually come before the main verb of the sentence. In a question they may come after the verb.

  8. Affirmative / Negative Words • Ella también lo recuerda. • ¿Alguien cumplió años? • ¿Se repartió algo? • ¿Siempre vas a la panadería?

  9. Affirmative / Negative Words • A double negative is required in Spanish when no comes before the verb. • Memorize this construction:No + verb + Neg. Word • No veo nada. • I do not see anything.

  10. Affirmative / Negative Words • When alguien or nadie is the object of a verb, you must use a personal “a.” • ¿Conoces aalguien de España? • No, no conozco anadie de España.
