  1. Gun control By: Skilee Gould and Christley Mena

  2. Information Explaining Our Project • Our project is about gun control. We think gun control is a major topic in society today. • Keeping a gun in the house could keep many from danger • We think that people should be allowed to possess a gun as long as there is no mentally ill or felon in the house. • Gun control should be allowed because the 2nd amendment gives the right to bear arms. • For decades the 2nd amendment seemed like it has banished but now congress is starting new gun control policies

  3. Proposed Law • “Gun control should be allowed in house holds with a certain extent (no household with a felon or mentally ill in it.) “ • our law would protect individual’s rights is to keep responsible individuals armed in case of emergencies • gun control should be allowed but with new regulations

  4. Individual rights Common good If there is no felon in the family the odds are the family won’t use the gun unless needed If there is a felon in the house hold the felon is most likely to use the gun unnecessarily Putting a gun in the hands of a felon or mentally ill person could result in the worst for the common good • One way our law would protect individual’s rights is the right to bear arms • Another way our law would protect individual’s rights is self defense if an intruder would come into their house • Another way our law would protect individual’s rights is to keep responsible individuals armed in case of emergencies

  5. Court Cases Heller v. Columbia U.S. v. Miller Conflict: Jack Miller and Frank Layton got arrested for carrying an unregistered shot gun across state lines in 1938 Court ruling: The court said that they cannot keep and bear arms that are unnecessary Conflict: • Heller (policeman) applied for a handgun to keep at home • District of Columbia turned Heller down Court Ruling: • The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia

  6. Court cases……. For both Precedent: American citizens have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms for personal self defense • They are both related because they both deal with how people should have the right to bear arms to stay safe and self defense

  7. Current Events “Gun control measures don't stop violence” “Sandy Hook shootings push mental health debate to the front of Michigan school safety review” guns should not be in the hands of the mentally ill Accidents won’t happen if you keep guns out of the hands of people who cant control them Michigan is looking into mental health • gun control should be allowed but with new regulations • If guns were allowed in the households it would still provide protection with less violence • New gun control regulations are going to happen in Arizona • They relate to our law because they deal with new gun control regulations and not having a gun fall into a mentally ill persons hands
