  1. HISTORICAL FACTS OF COMPUTERS BY CETAN BARR

  2. COMPUTERS…. • Have you ever thought how computers were first made or who made them and how? Well ,I have and we have all learned about it in computers 1 and 2 and it was quite cool. Do you know how your computer is made? Do you know who made it?

  3. FACTS • Early computational devices • Early computers • Generations and main components • Inventors/developers • Internet • Wrap Up! • Citations

  4. EARLY COMPUTATIONAL DEVICES • First calculating tool was the abacus. • Herman Hollerith developed a mechanical tabulator based on punched cards.

  5. EARLY COMPUTERS • Eckert and Mauchly both developed the first general purpose computer ENIAC and first commercial computer UNIVAC. • Charles Babbage made the first computer. • Mark 1 was the first electronic computer made.

  6. EARLY COMPUTERS CONT. • Altair 8800 was the first microcomputer made in 1975. • EDSAC and EDVAC are a couple of the earliest computers developed.

  7. GENERATIONS AND MAIN COMPONENTS • First generation was made up of vacuum tubes in 1946-1958. UNIVAC and ENIAC. • Second generation computers were made up of transistors in 1956-1963. • Third generation computers were made up of integrated circuits in 1965-1970. Can carry out instructions in billionths of a second.

  8. GENERATIONS AND MAIN COMPONENTS CONT. • Fourth generation computers were microprocessors made in 1971-today. Altair 8800 was the first microprocessor kit bought. • Fifth generation computers are artificial intelligence. Made today-future. Quantum and Molecular will change in computers in years. • Generations of Computers flyer.

  9. INVENTORS/DEVELOPERS • Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniak both helped create Apple. • Bill Gates and Paul Allen helped design Microsoft. • In 1991, Tim Berners-Lee developed the World Wide Web.

  10. INVENTORS/DEVELOPERS CONT. • Blaise Pascal made the first digital calculator. • MANIAC was later developed by John Von Neumann.

  11. INTERNET • Birth of the net took place in 1969. • ARPANET was the first Internet up and running and developed by Department of Defense. • The first web browser made was Mosaic which was developed by Marc Andreesen.

  12. WRAP UP! • Well have you learned anything new about your computer? I have. Pretty fascinating how quickly our society has become more technological. Newer world means newer discoveries I guess. Can’t wait to see what our world will come up with next.
