Services Delivered in-house • Two qualified counsellors • Chaplaincy – Rev Duncan Jennings (staff and student support) • Mentoring plus safeguarding mentoring • Advocacy • Specialist counselling including: • Rape Crisis • CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services • EIP (Early Intervention Psychosis) • SYSDA (Southampton Youth Support Domestic Abuse) • DASH/No Limit Clinics (Drugs/Alcohol/Housing) • Sexual Health Nurse • Police – Beat Surgeries • Mental Health Nurse • Bereavement Support

  5. Pilot Mental Health Nurse Project 2012 • An agreement was reached to undertake a pilot for eight weeks for three hours each week in which to see young people. This ran from February to April 2012. • To identify students who might not meet the referral threshold for CAMHS but might need support beyond what the college is able to provide. • Referral by either counsellors or Child Protection Liaison Officers • Funded by Healthy FE.

Aims and Objectives • The pilot aimed to offer assessment of the presenting difficulties to identify if : • the student might be further supported in college. • required signposting to another service. • required referral to a CAMHS service in their area of residence. • to allow early intervention.

  7. Young People Seen The average age of the young people seen is 16.8yrs of age. Of the 19 referred, 15 have been seen at least once.

Benefits • Early intervention for students with more complex difficulties • Male engagement and referral – much higher level • Clinical assessment done early and medical report submitted to CAMHS – speeds up process • Support for college staff in helping support students • Clearly defined protocols for working including safeguarding • Positive student feedback and parental support.

  11. Results of Pilot

Year 2013-14 • Extend mental health nurse project from October to May – 3 hrs per week • Chaplaincy support offered to staff as well as students • Anxiety Workshop Training for interested staff • Exam stress and anxiety workshops for students • Specialist training for safeguarding mentors and staff • Continue to review and plan for future demand. Resourcing of finances available as Healthy FE funds have diminished.
