  1. AWARD BID WRITING HELPING YOUR SCHOOL RECOGNIZE ITSELF FOR THE QUALITY THINGS EACH OF YOU ARE DOING!

  2. Purpose of Award Bids • Showcase the people and things on your campus • While there is a competitive nature to bids on the regional and national level, you should all be submitting bids as a historical document of the quality people and events on your campus • Gain additional recognition for your school on a regional and national level

  3. What is a Bid? • A written account of the individual and group achievements during a defined period of time (typically NACURH to NACURH) • Gives specific examples of items performed and outcomes achieved through written text, photos and captions, and with supportive documentation of support.

  4. Program of the Year--Fall bid Student Award for Leadership Training (SALT)—Fall bid Commitment to Diversity—No Frills School of the Year—No Frills RHA Building Block—No Frills NCC of the Year—No Frills Distinguished Service—No Frills First Year Experience—No Frills Dan Hallenbeck Service—No Frills Resident of the Year—No Frills President of the Year—No Frills Executive Board Member of the Year— No Frills Student of the Year—No Frills Residential Assistant of the Year—No Frills Advisor of the Year—No Frills Community of the Year—No Frills NRHH Building Block of the Year—No Frills NRHH Outstanding Chapter of the Year—No Frills NRHH Outstanding Member of the Year—No Frills What things can we bid on?(PACURH Policy Book pg 23-33)

  5. HOW TO GET STARTED? • Read Policy Book (PACURH AND NACURH) • Look for bid examples --- NIC and the RFI or www.nacurh.org/pacurh • Make a list of the awards and brainstorm people or programs that shine on your campus in each area • If your school writes Of The Months (OTMs), you may want to consider turning one of your OTMs into a bid • Identify Pros and Cons and Individual Strengths of each person or event • Narrow list and gather information about potential nominees • Identify people who can help gather information and write the bid • Start writing narrative • Identify specific examples of why this event or person is important and what each has accomplished

  6. How do I know when the bid is finished? • Double check your bid to ensure all requirements are met (page numbers, letters of reference or support or academic standing, etc.) • If you wish you may have RBD review for meeting requirements according to policy books • POLISH with pictures and captions, theme, “WOW Factors” (paint a picture to keep the reader interested)

  7. Other things to think about… • Yes…it’s great to win…but it’s better to recognize individuals for the achievements. • Even if you picked a person or an event on your local campus as the best…you’re already recognizing…by submitting your bid regionally, your spreading the word about your school…and if you win regionally, you may get to recognize your school and your region nationally.
