  2. Purpose Statement The goal of this study was to magnify current trends within the Lolita culture and forecast future trends within their group by analyzing and interpreting their culture and everyday life.

  3. Background of Lolita • Based off of Harajuku district in Tokyo • Began in the 1970’s • Milk and Pink House brands • Popular in the 1990’s • Influenced by Victorian and Edwardian era • Modesty is important

  4. Background of lolita There are many different types of Lolita • Gothic • Sweet • Pirate • Casual • Country • Sailor • Punk • Aristocrat • Classic • Angelic Pretty

  6. Background of lolita • The Lolita wardrobe is not complete without: • Knee length skirt or dress • Short sleeved blouse • Camisole • Bloomers • Multilayered petticoat • High socks or stockings • Mary Jane heels • Headdress • Accessories

  7. Data Collections/Methodology • Interviews gathered at a local coffee shop and yogurt shop • Lolita Meet-Up: Planned gathering to wear a great outfit and be with friends. • Picnics, ice skating, tea parties, etc • 10 observations gathered at Sprinkles Cupcakes and Yogurt Fusion

  8. Findings • Extremely individualistic • Unique prints • Hard to acquire • Must be shipped from Japan • Expensive • Dress $200-$400 • Accessories $10-$100 • Many Lolita’s sew their own garments

  9. Findings • Many wear Lolita attire only for special occasions • Japanese culture is adored • Anime • Fantasy novels • Video games • Garments are treasured

Discussions • “Series” released twice a month • Collections of clothing and accessories that coordinate and have a common theme • Once a series is produced, it will not be re-released • Printed items are desired • The patterns cannot be replicated, increasing the exclusivity • Garments require lots of care • Hand wash or dry clean only

  11. Discussions • Lolita is about fun and friendships • Collectors hobby • There is a male version • “Dandy”

  12. Trend Predictions • Stronger presence of Japanese culture • Kimono sleeves • Colorful silks • Mandarin buttons • Nehru collars • Floral designs • School uniform look • Plaid • Lunchbox accessories

  13. Observations • Out of 10 observations there were: • Three Gothic Lolita’s • Five Sweet Lolita’s • One “Grown up” Lolita • One Classic Lolita • Ages ranging from 18-25 years old

Interviews • Lolita’s are dedicated • Ciara has been involved for four years • Amy has been interested for seven years • Laura has been involved for three years • All enjoy the friendships they have made within the subculture • They each have a wardrobe outside Lolita attire • Each admire different types of Lolita
