  2. First Things First…Congratulations! • First let me begin by saying Congratulations! You have worked hard, and your efforts should most certainly be applauded! • Many students get so excited about graduating that they forget there are important steps to take to ensure you will receive your degree on time • This seminar will provide you with essential information that is needed to make sure you reach your goal!

  3. Make SURE That Your Are On Track • Did you know that it takes more than just completing each course on your Program Evaluation to complete your degree? • In addition to completing all the courses, there are: • Institutional GPA Requirements • Combined or Overall GPA Requirements • Major GPA Requirements • Institutional Credit Requirements • Major Institutional Credit Requirements • Senior Level Credit Requirements • Let us briefly discuss each of these…

  4. Institutional GPA Requirements • In order to complete your degree, you must attain a certain GPA in the courses that you have complete AT TROY. • Courses that may have transferred to Troy do not apply toward your Institutional GPA. • For most undergraduate programs, the required Institutional GPA is a 2.0. However, this may occasionally vary depending on your program of study. • You can determine your current Institutional GPA by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express REQUIRED INSTITUTIONAL GPA YOUR CURRENT INSTITUTIONAL GPA

Combined or Overall GPA Requirements • In addition to your Institutional GPA, you must also achieve a certain Combined or Overall GPA. • Your Combined or Overall GPA is determined by the courses you have completed at Troy AND any transfer credits you received from other colleges. • If you have never attended another college other than Troy, your Combined or Overall GPA will be the same as your Institutional GPA. • Once again, the Combined or Overall GPA requirement for most Undergraduate programs is a 2.0, but it can occasionally vary depending on your program of study. • You can determine your current Combined or Overall GPA by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express YOUR CURRENT COMBINED/OVERALL GPA APPEARS HERE IF YOU HAVE TRANSFER CREDITS, THE REQUIRED GPA WILL APPEAR HERE

  6. Major GPA Requirements • You must achieve the specified minimum GPA in your MAJOR COURSES in order to complete your degree • This GPA is determined only by the courses in your Major. It excludes any course for your General Studies or your Minor. • Typically, the minimum Major GPA is a 2.0, but it can sometimes differ depending on your Major • You can determine your current Major GPA by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express YOUR CURRENT MAJOR GPA YOUR REQUIRED MAJOR GPA

Institutional Credit Requirements • A certain amount of credit hours must be taken at Troy University in order to complete your degree • Your Institutional Credits are only those completed at Troy; courses that transferred to Troy from other institutions do not apply • Typically most Undergraduate degrees require that at least 30 credit hours must be completed at Troy, but this may vary depending on your program • You can determine your current Institutional Credits by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express REQUIRED INSTITUTIONAL CREDIT HOURS CURRENT INSTITUTIONAL CREDIT HOURS EARNED

Major Institutional Credit Requirements • A certain amount of credit hours in your MAJOR COURSES must be completed at Troy University • Your Major Institutional Credit Requirement can only be completed by courses taken at Troy; courses that transferred to Troy from other institutions do not apply • Typically, the Major Institutional Credit Requirement is 12 hours in your major courses, but this can vary depending on your program • You can determine your current Major Institutional Credits by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express HOW MANY INSTITUTIONAL CREDITS YOU HAVE IN YOUR MAJOR AT THIS TIME HOW MANY MAJOR INSTITUTIONAL CREDITS ARE REQUIRED HOW MANY HOURS YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING TOWARDS YOUR MAJOR AT TROY

  9. Senior Level Credit Requirements • A certain amount of credit hours must be completed at Four Year Institutions or be Upper Level Military Credits • Courses transferred to Troy from Two Year Colleges will not count toward your Senior Level Requirement even though they fulfill a degree requirement • It is required that you complete at least 50% of your degree (usually 60 credit hours) at Four Year Institutions or Upper Level Military • The actual amount of hours that make up 50% of your degree may vary slightly depending on your program of study • You can determine your current Senior Level Credits by referring to your Program Evaluation in Trojan Web Express HOW MANY SENIOR LEVEL CREDITS ARE REQUIRED FOR YOUR PROGRAM HOW MANY YOU CURRENTLY HAVE/NEED

Most Importantly • It is beneficial for you to be able to determine where you stand in regards to the previously discussed requirements on your own • HOWEVER, please speak to your Academic Advisor AND come by the Student Support Services Offices (Malone Hall 116) once you get close to completing your degree so that we may check as well

Intent to Graduate • Did you know that you must submit an Intent to Graduate form two full semesters BEFORE you plan to complete your degree? • Even if ALL requirements have been completed, your degree will not be conferred if you did not submit an Intent to Graduate form before the deadline for that semester! • You can find the deadlines to submit an Intent to Graduate by referring to the Dothan Campus Calendar: • http://trojan.troy.edu/campus/dothan/calendar.html • Just a reminder: The deadline to file an Intent to Graduate for Spring 2013 will be September 21, 2012 by noon! • The deadline for Summer 2013 will March 7, 2013 • You can find information about filing an Intent to Graduate –including the electronic form and deadlines- at the following link: • http://trojan.troy.edu/records/graduation/intent.html • If you are unable to complete your degree requirements by the end of the Semester that you file your Intent to Graduate form for… • If you are unable to complete the requirements prior to your intended graduation date you will need to re-file to graduate the following semester. You will receive an e-mail with all the re-file instructions, which will be sent to your TROY e-mail account. If you do not receive this e-mail please contact the appropriate Records office as soon as possible.

  12. Before You Graduate • Come by the Student Support Services office to fill out a brief exit survey near the end of your last semester • We want to celebrate this accomplishment with you, and we have a gift for you as well! • We applaud the time and effort that you have put into obtaining your degree, and we are glad that you have let us be a part of your college experience.
