  2. Purpose: • The purpose of a news article is to inform your reader. • So it includes facts and information about a current event. • There is no opinion in the article!!!

  3. It contains: • A heading – the Title • A lead paragraph – introduction that answers the 5 W’s and 1 H. (Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.) • Supporting Details • A conclusion - to wrap it all up

Read the Following Carlinville Teacher Wins Award Bobbie Klaus of Carlinville, a teacher at West Elementary School, returned to Illinois $25,000 richer and armed with a wealth of ideas to improve her teaching. She was among hundreds of distinguished educators, policy makers and business leaders from across the nation attending the Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference in Los Angeles, which concluded last week. Klaus was among 155 educators from 43 states to be presented with the Milken Educator Award, a prestigious honor that includes a financial award of $25,000 as well as public recognition for exemplary work and membership in a nationwide network of over 1,650 high-caliber educators.

  5. Homework • Tonight – Look for a New Article – either on the internet, in a newspaper or and magazine. Cut it or print it out and bring to school tomorrow. • On a sheet of Paper tell me the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How from the Article.
