  4. How will we cover these topics? • Students and parents will divide into 7 groups and rotate between sessions. • NHS students will escort your group. • Sessions rotate every 20 minutes

  7. CODE OF CONDUCTAssistant Principal Learning the rules and culture of your new school. Read and learn the student Code of Conduct in your AGENDA BOOK.

  8. RESEARCH STUDY: NINTH-GRADE “F’s” or GPA can be used to predict about 80% of those students who will graduate from high school.

  9. You’re here. GOOD MOVE! Our data indicates freshmen who have attended our orientation had: 1. Higher GPA’s than those who do not attend (0.33 higher) 2. Lower discipline incidents (3 less/year).

  11. The social setting is different Junior High School age range: 12-14 High School range: 14-19 (and even older) Behavioral Expectations are raised in high school

  12. BASIC DISIPLINARY OPTIONS -Verbal reprimand -Parental Contact -Detention (30 min. after school) -Extended School (2 hrs. after school) -A.E.P. (Alt. Ed. Placement…in-school isolation for 1 to 5+ days)

  13. Additional Disciplinary Options -Suspension (up to 10 school days) -Expulsion (up to 80 add’l school days)

  14. Legal Complications -Police Contact (charges) -MSJ Court (vs. Juvenile Court)

  15. DRESS CODE no-no’s You may not wear or be in possession of a hat, or head covering during the school day (7:40 to 2:38).

  18. Boys too • Pants are to be up around your waist; cannot be a safety hazard; cannot show underwear or undershorts • If a staff member can tell you/me the color of your underwear/undershorts then you are in violation of the dress code.

  19. No HOLES!! No HOLES!! No HOLES!! Tape, pins, staples, leggings, underwear, are NOT a solution to having a hole in clothes No Pins No Staples NO TAPE

  23. 1 EXCEPTION TO BOOK BAG RULE: “Cinch” bags may be used to take clothes TO and FROM gym class only. ? A cinch bag or purse becomes a book bag when you carry books in it.

  25. BUS PROCEDURES • Students are not allowed to ride a bus other than the one they are assigned to ride. • The Valley View transportation will not change pick-up or drop-off locations (without 5 days notice). • 855-3897 Transportation

  27. Stay away from substance abuse! Students BEWARE! One mistake and your school year or season can be over. Or both. Be Aware. (Any form of tobacco)

  28. Students who drink these tend to fall asleep in class, so they are not allowed in school. “Marley’s Mellow Mood” Flavored Tobacco Pellets Are Denounced as a Lure to Young Users

  29. Be aware of our “AIRPORT ATMOSPHERE” No threats; no mention of weapons, guns, bombs, plots. You can’t even joke about it. NO KIDDING & NO PARODY.

  32. ACTIONS of INTOLERANCE • No amount of bullying/harassment is acceptable.

  33. Harassment • Hazing • Initiations • Bullying …illegal and a violation of the Code of Conduct. ***ANY behavior toward another person which makes them feel uncomfortable is not okay.

  34. Cyber-bullying NEXUS to school? If so, it does not matter from where the student hits “SEND”, it is bullying/harassment. ANY form of bullying is wrong and if it effects the school learning environment it will be dealt with.

  36. A high school dance is not for ‘club’ dancing. Be appropriate at school. No moshing No sexually explicit dancing (If you need this, go to a club.)
