Who- Thomas Jefferson, William H. Crawford, and Andrew Jackson Details- Originally the Democratic-Republican party but they split up. President Andrew Jackson gave it its name. Now one of the two big political parties in the U.S. Significance- It was Democratic presidents that helped the country out of the Great Depression and led the country through 2 world wars. DEMocrats

Fremont Significance- One of two major political parties in our government Details- This party was important in abolition, free speech, and the gaining of women’s suffrage. It is known as the G.O.P.
