About Sigulda: Facts: Approx. 20 000 Inhabitants Only 50 km from Riga – the capital of Latvia Positive birth rate, positive growth Economically vibrant – less than 7% unemployment Historical tourism destination Unique cultural heritage and history – more than 800 years old Unique nature – adjacent to Gauja National Park Rich cultural and community life – more than 200 cultural events a year The first and so far only municipality in Latvia to actively consider sustainable (ZEN) events

About Sigulda: Timeline: In 2009 Sigulda becomes the only official partner of Riga for European Capital of Culture 2014, resulting in: New infrastructural developments Revitalization of the cultural scene Comprehensive culture development strategy New town branding strategy In 2011 Sigulda enters in the ZEN project partnership: Strategic focus shifts from profitablity to sustainablity Negative impacts of events assessed Good practices identified In 2014 Sigulda enacts the ZEN Mindset in the European Capital of Culture 2014 Events: Becomes the first municipality in Latvia to consciously promote sustainable events through applying ZEN practices
