Introduction to TR • Definition of Recreation • An activity? • An activity which an individual wants to do? • Example? • Elements of Recreational Activity? • Consciously (secara sedar/kawal) • With an objective (objektif/khusus) • Pleasurable (keseronokan) • Recreation, work and play; any different? • Work; everyday routine; earn of living; money; income • Working for own self, family; society • What about voluntary work?

  3. Introduction to TOR • Apakah yg unik rekreasi sebagai aktiviti? • +ve satisfaction? • -ve satisfactions? • Adakah semua aktiviti dianggap sebagai rekreasi?

Introduction to TOR • Recreation must be pleasurable (keseronokan) • Recreation undertaken in places when individual obtains pleasurable • It is from the activity or from the location? • Can recreation bring –ve effects? • Example 1: Group camping in beach area; noise? • Example 2: Golfing; cater for ‘elite’ people • To individual ----- Yes/No? • To others ------ Yes/No? • Can doing nothing as considered as recreation? • Melepak?

Introduction to TOR • Adakah aktiviti rekreasi hanya dilakukan di tempat-tempat tertentu (khusus) sahaja? • Tidak semestinya ------> di mana-mana sahaja? • Tetapi selalunya di tempat-tempat khusus • Adakah pembangunan kawasan/lokasi rekreasi mendatangkan kesan +ve sahaja? • Example: Amenity Forest (hutan lipur)---facilities, toilet? • Recreation vs work? • Earn of living/money/income • Provides rec of life; what about housewife? • For own self, family, society; what about voluntary work?

Introduction to TOR • Recreation vs sports (profesional)? • Ruslin Hashim—badminton player to Doha (professional) Kota Bharu….playing badminton with their relative…recreation? • Recreation vs attitude? • Rec is done without confusion • The attitude with which rec is carried out • Recreation vs Tourism? • Tourism; travel, stay, activity? • Example: Rizal travel to Redang Island & snorkeling activity Abu (local people) & snorkeling activity Rizal----tourists; lakukan recreational activity; snorkeling Abu-----not tourists but lakukan recreational activity

  7. Recreation and Leisure (Senggangan/masa lapang) What is leisure? Example: Rizal goes sport fishing (activity) for their leisure Sport fishing is Rizal leisure Rizal spends his leisure (time) by sport fishing So leisure is related to recreation by: an objective of an activity being the activity being the time for the activity Recreation can be done in any place; but it only be done where the resource available!
