  2. Purpose of the Report • Data-driven decision making. • Collaborative discussions and decisions. • To support secondary and postsecondary institutions in developing an articulated and aligned curriculum • Help to ensure success for all students.

  3. The ACT National Curriculum Survey 2009: • Survey participants included middle school teachers, high school teachers, postsecondary faculty teaching entry-level courses, and postsecondary teachers of remedial courses • Over 55,000 surveys sent • Overall response rate 14%

The ACT National Curriculum Survey 2009: • What postsecondary instructors expect entering college students to know is more targeted and specific than what high school teachers view as important. • Science • High School: Teach science content, including advanced topics • Postsecondary: Focus on process and inquiry skills in science as well as fundamental science topics

  11. How do we define college and career readiness? College and Career Readiness refers to the level of student preparation (knowledge and skills) needed to be ready to succeed-without remediation- in an introductory –level course at a two or four year institution, trade school or technical school. Empirically derived scores needed on an ACT subject-area test to indicate a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher or a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher in the corresponding first-year credit-bearing college course.
