Overview • Tesco would like to use this opportunity of an Innovation day to brain storm ideas and to see how Tesco dotcom can engaged with the future of online shopping. • The day was structured to have a brain storming session with customers, alongside creative types to help stimulate ideas. With the evening set aside for developers to come along and pick idea and develop them using new and emerging technologies. • It is important for Tesco to stay ahead and remain at the for-front of innovation as the market leader in the online grocery sector. • The developers at the event have been able to use the ideas that customers came up with and used them to create online applications, affiliates and widgets that could aid the future of online shopping for customers and for Tesco, as well as Tesco supporting the schemes through double click etc..

Challenges Summary • How to make the online shopping experience better than in store. • How to help customers spend less on their weekly grocery shop. • How to harness the potential of Mobile and emerging technologies such as smart phones, Internet TV, Set Top boxes etc. • How to give customers inspiration for their weekly grocery shop. • How to harness the power of social networking. • How to help customers shop more quickly and easily.

Concepts and Ideas • I wish I could add items to my shopping list by SMS. • Takeaway Dinner Party – how to store a dinner party menu on a USB to share with friends. • Top Tips! – discussion / review section and top tips for products and recipes. • I wish I could do my shopping on Facebook. • I want to be able to select popular items to be auto-added to my basket each time when I shop. • I wish I could add items to my shopping list by SMS. • Recipes and ingredients for people with food allergies. • I wish to take a photo of wine that I like and add to basket. • I wish the website knew what’s missing in my kitchen and recommends me items that would save me money. • I wish you could have reminders e.g. your milk is out of date tomorrow.

  5. Open Forum Discussion An open forum that allows everyone who attended the Tjam event to discuss ideas further. • Number of Discussions • Number of Topics • Number of members • Number of posts per day.

Daytime Agenda • The Brainstorms (11am – 4pm) • 60-70 people will be invited to this event – 32 customers will be recruited and the remaining number will be made up of ‘creative thinkers’, Tesco staff and Tesco suppliers. • The day will be facilitated by 6 agents from Happen and supported by 3 illustrators which will roam amongst the groups sketching the ideas as they occur. • A rough outline of the agenda is as follows:- • 09:00 – 11:00 Briefing for Tesco staff / suppliers • 11:00 – 11:20 Customer briefing • 11:20 – 12:00 Set up as one team (Brief intro to welcome group, warm up exercise) • 12:00 – 12:20 Split into 6 groups and outline challenges • 12:20 – 14:30 Sparking (generation of ideas) • 14:30 – 14:45 Selection of best ideas (by Tesco reps) • 14:45 – 15:30 Develop selected sparks into concepts • 15:30 – 16:00 Post original sparks, worked concepts on the wall, all vote for best idea

Evening Agenda • The Developer event (7pm – 9pm) • About 150 developers will be invited to this event to learn about the API and review the ideas that were created during the day. • A rough outline of the agenda is as follows:- • 19:00 – 19:10 Introduction, agenda and objectives • 19:10 –19:55 Review concepts in the market place • 20:00 – 20:30 API masterclass using both Microsoft and non-Microsoft technologies • 20:30 – 20:50 Discussions/ Q&A • 20:50 – 21:00 Wrap up and close

  10. More than 2 hours for the developer event. How to relax the catering rules so that you can drink / eat and review ideas. How to get more concepts written up. How to have more time for reviewing ideas. How to have a bigger and cooler room with windows. Motivated work-groups throughout the day. Seeing people laughing and smiling. Having over 800 ideas. Challenge owners were very encouraging / knew their staff. Customers / hosts / friends all became one team. Benefits and Concerns
