  10. Response 8 Please explain what you talked about in the tutoring session and describe what you learned from your session.  Give us suggestions for improvements. *Note* The responses provided in this section are certainly not all of the responses we received, but they do reflect the spirit and diversity of the students we work with.

  11. Response 8—Ms. Kavan • I received help with two essays that I'm submitting for summer research opportunities. She helped me make my writing better without just rewriting the whole essay. I received constructive criticism without feeling dumb about my mistakes. The only thing I recommend is maybe getting rid of the time limits of the sessions. • Mrs. Kavan have been tutoring for a while and because of her I have improve so much. Due to the fact I have been coming here to the writing center I have got a better grade in my english class. So so far I dn't have any improvements idea that I can share, but if any come to my mind i will inform the tutors. • Ms Kavan taught me on how to be patient with my writing and don't rush. She told me to stay on topic on what I am writing about. Ms Kavan also said to have an interesting topic sentence on what the paper is going to be about. • In my session we discussed two peoms that i needed to compare and contrast. with the help of the tutor i was able to understand the two poems and come up with ideas. my suggestions for improvements would be a longer time with the tutors such as 45mins. • In the tutuoring session, we talked about how to effectively summarize an article and compose a social psychology research question.

  12. Response 8—Ms. Soule • In my tutoring session I learned to be more detailed. Allowing someone else to read your work out loud, gives you the opportunity to hear what you've written sounds like. Mrs. Soule was very helpful to me.  • We talked about essays that I needed to write for a summer program. I learned to be more clear about my ideas, explain subjects better, and avoid repetition. I appreciated the session and do not have any suggestions at this time.  • My tutor and I discussed writing poetry analysis papers. she taught me how to fing symbols inside of a poem to better understand the content of the poem.  • Resume and Cover letter writing. Definitely helped on how to organize and word the resume and cover letter! :)  • I learned how to use my school's online library system and we talked about what different articles to choose from and how to correctly find my sources. • I learned to not use "you" but them is supposed to be used when talking about people...Ms. Soule also showed me how to use commas in the correct place.

  13. Response 8—Ms. Williams • Ms. Williams she was so great to me helped me find out what i am reading and how did what we reading came from. She is different and do her job great. • we talked about compoung and complex sentences she explained everything clearly and she was a wonderful tutor • Today, Ms. Williams and I discusse literary devices that i could write about in my poetry analysis paper. i learned how to better understand poems and take the words into a deeper meaning in order to get a better understanding. • I was here today to review a paper for Nursing Orientation. Ms. Williams helped me review my finished rough draft. Focusing on my in progress comma skills. I really appreciated her advice, and I think one of the most helpful things was having someone else read it outloud. This made me realize I wasn't necessarily writing down what I was hearing/thinking in my head. I have no suggestions at this time. • Ms. Williams helped a lot on how I do not have to contantly use transition words and also staying on topic through my paper • Worked on resume and Ms. William did a very good job explaining.
