  4. A Buffer = A chemical that can either bind to excess Hydrogen Ion (H+) if there happens to be a lot of it (if the environment is acidic)ORcan give up a Hydrogen Ion if there happens to be a lot of Hydroxide ion (–OH-) if the environment is basic so that water can be produced (H+ + -OH-  HOH)

  5. Primary Biologic Buffer=HCO3-(Bicarbonate Ion) Can bind H+ in acidic environment  H2CO3 Can give up H+ (to make H2O) in basic environment  CO2
