Updated Experience of a Needle-Syringe Exchange Program NEPs in Malmö ,Sweden
Updated insights into Malmö's needle-syringe exchange program (NEP) reveal its critical role in promoting public health. By providing clean needles in exchange for used injection gear, NEPs significantly reduce the risk of infections among intravenous drug users (IVDUs). This presentation highlights the local initiative that began in Lund in 1986, designed to curb the spread of HIV, and examines how Malmö NEP has evolved to foster safer injecting practices. The impact of these programs on community health and safety will be discussed, along with future directions for similar initiatives.
