  1. Building Assets through Integrated Technology Canoga Park’s Career Technical Education Academy is named Building Assets through Integrated Technology (B.A.I.T.) The purpose of the academy is to introduce students to career options, give them job skills and get them ready for college. Students to produce integrated graphic technology projects. The academy creates the school website, yearbook and senior DVD.

Challenges We Face • Intolerance to diversity (being beat-up) • Illegal Immigrants Cannot Legally Work • LARGE % of English Language Learners • Unsafe in Neighborhood (feel a need to Carry Weapons) • No Dreams for the Future • Little Follow Through on Activities/ Responsibilities • Many students work full-time out of necessity • Declining Enrollment- Jobs in Jeopardy • Students Failing Core Subjects • Drop- Out Rate Too High • Gang Violence in Community • Electives Being Cut • 9th Graders Untrained in Citizenship • No Civic Responsibility • Tagging and Trash on the Campus • Lack of Parental Involvement SUCCESS THAT WE CREATE…

  3. STUDENT SPOTLIGHT FILM FESTIVAL JONATHAN SANDOVAL WALKS THE RED CARPET His film was showcased at the Spotlight Student Film Festival at the Radio and Television Film Actor's Fund Theatre. The Spotlight Student Film Festival screened "the Boy Who Gets Fit" on the Big Screen at the Motion Picture & Television Fund on Saturday, May 17th. Jonathan introduced his work to the audience and served on a speaker panel for emerging filmmakers. He was well spoken, and represented LAUSD like a champion.

  4. B.A.I.T. ACADEMY GOES TO COLLEGE Students were invited to CSUN to explore the possibility of pursuing an Art degree. On May 12, 2008 a group of Canoga Park High students took an MTA bus to CSUN for a tour of the Art Department. We were introduced to Dave Moon, the director of the Center for Visual Communications and Ed Alfonzo, the chairman of the Art Department. In 2008-2009 we will send student to apprentice with the center at CSUN.

  5. HUNTERS WIN LAUSD INFOTECH COMPETITION On Saturday, April 12, a team of students from our Career Technical Education Academy won FIRST PLACE in LAUSD's annual technology competiton! Stephanie Ann Calix, Jonathan Sandoval, and Ernesto Soto were honored at the Los Angeles Convention Center. They created a video which depicted "social networking" and how it enhances the communication between school and home.

  6. B.A.I.T. ACADEMY WINS LAPTOP On Friday, May 9th LAUSD presented (BAIT) Building Assets through Integrated Technology students and Ms. Olenick with a new laptop computer. Mr. Robert Sachs, our local district Instructional Technology Facilitator, presented the award winning students and teacher with a new HP Tablet laptop. The academy members placed first in the annual InfoTech High School Competition. Their winning entry was a multimedia presentation on social networking.

  7. BAIT ACADEMY GOES HOLLYWOOD Stephanie Calix spent a week this summer as a crew member on a Hollywood Set. She was one of 20 film students chosen to represent the West Coast in a National Film Contest that will culminate at the American Film Festival this fall. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for her success!

  9. Scholarships to Summer Camp Eight students attended “ Yearbooks at the Beach”, a five day summer workshop at California State University Long Beach.. In summer 2007, six students went to California State University San Diego. They learned how to create layouts in In Design and how to do advanced photography .

Building Assets through Integrated Technology In 2008-2009 Building Assets through Integrated Technology (B.A.I.T.) • Will collaborate with Pierce Community College for on site classes and articulation of coursework. • Will offer mentors from CSUN on the school campus and apprenticeships on the college campus.
