MAJOR LANDMARKS • The Capitoline Hill – the site of the Temple of Iuppiter Optimus Maximus • The Palatine Hill – site of the emperor’s palace • The Circus Maximus – venue for chariot races, lay between the Palatine and Aventine hills and after expansion by Julius Caesar could hold about 270,000 spectators • Forum Romanum – the principal public square, between Capitoline and Palatine.
