  2. AP and Pre-AP Training and Incentives Program Support • Madison County and Huntsville City Schools are participating in the program. Sparkman HS, Buckhorn HS, Hazel Green HS, Madison County HS, New Hope HS, Columbia HS, Huntsville HS, Lee HS, Butler HS, and J.O. Johnson HS were selected to participate. • Local business and industry are the primary funding sources of this grant to increase interest and expertise in upper level math and science. • The National Math and Science Initiativepromotes this partnership for academic excellence.

What is an AP Course? • An AP course is an introductory college level course taught as a high school course. • Critical thinking and writing are stressed. • Students must take the AP Exam administered nationally in May. The exam fee is paid by the grant.  • Students may receive college credit for each qualifying exam score of 3 or better.

College Ready Goals • Increase AP enrollment in math, science and English by recruiting AP potential students identified by the PSAT test. • Increase the number students earning qualifying scores (3, 4, 5) on College Board’s AP exams in those subjects by: • Flexible scheduling for optimal success • Student study sessions and at least 3 Saturday seminars • AP training for teachers for 5 consecutive summers • Laying the Foundation training for 6th – 12th teachers annually • Saturday seminars for teachers • Increase the number of students attending and graduating from college with degrees in math and science.

AP Credit Policy Information • Information about AP credit and placement policies at many colleges and universities is available at the College Board’s web site: • Go to www.collegeboard.com/ap/creditpolicy. 2. Type in the name of the college or university whose AP policy you want to view (or browse by letter of the alphabet). 3. You will see two things for each school that has provided their AP credit policy information: • A link to the college’s own Web page that details its AP credit and placement policies • A statement by the college or university about their AP policy.

Incentives for Taking AP Courses Students Teachers College Board training and support Opportunity to team teach Teacher receives $100 for each AP student receiving a qualifying score. • Colleges will see that students take courses with rigor • Pre-AP courses weighted 5pts and AP courses weighted 10 pts • For each qualifying AP exam score (3 or better) student receives $100 • Opportunity for free college credit
