What is kynect? • kynect is Kentucky’s version of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance marketplace • kynect is an unbiased online service that makes it easy to find health insurance • kynect allows people to compare and select insurance plans of their choice • In 2014, most Americans must have health insurance (or they will have to pay a penalty) • In Kentucky, only through kynect can a family qualify for help (like subsidies) to pay for insurance, based on income • Through kynect, people can also apply for programs like Medicaid and the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program (KCHIP)

  6. 3) Find a local kynector • The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires the establishment of a Navigator Program to… • educate consumers about their health care coverage choices, • enable consumers to make informed decisions related to their health care benefits, and • facilitate enrollment through kynect • In Kentucky, these people are called kynectors and they may be able to come to your Center to help families enroll!

  7. How to Find a Local kynector • On the home page of page of the kynect website, scroll down to the LEARN MORE section and click on Assistance • Once there, scroll down to the section titled kynectors(see sample below) • Leaving the top three boxes in the kynector section blank, click on the “County” drop down menu to select a county, then click Leave blank! Leave blank! Leave blank! (Please note: if there are no kynectors located in your county, the search shouldpopulate kynectors from neighboring counties who can serve your center. To get a complete listing of all the kynectors throughout the state, leave all the boxes blank and do not choose a county.)
