  2. What Is Cyber Stalking? The simple definition: “the repeated use of electronic communications to harass or frighten someone”

  3. How Do Stalkers Do It? • Phones • Texting • Social Media (ie: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc…) • Online Forums • Chat Rooms • Email These are all examples of means of stalking

  4. Who Is At Risk? • Anyone, anywhere is at risk of being a victim. Even law enforcement officers can be at risk. • Everyone must protect themselves from harassment.

  5. Profiling the Criminal Someone could become a stalker for a number of different reasons: • To intimidate or try to influence your actions or a business. • To try to instigate fear • Obsession • Envy • They may believe they can get away with it. • And more..

  6. Types of Stalking:

  7. What Laws Protect Me? • In Canada, stalking is against the law under criminal harassment. • Offenders can find themselves sentenced to anywhere up to 10 years in prison.

  8. How Can I Prevent Myself From Being Victimized? • Be careful what you share online about yourself and/or our company. • The email you use at work shouldn’t be the email you use for social media sites • Always remain anonymous

  9. What Should I Do If I’m Being Harassed Online? • Tell your employer • Consider blocking/filtering unwanted messages • Tell a law enforcement officer
