  2. The Source • The source of the river is the very beginning of a river. It could be an underground spring or formed by rain water. • The River Severn’s source is in the Cambrian Mountains in Wales.

  3. Tributaries • These are smaller rivers that flow into larger rivers. • The River Severn has 21 of these small rivers.

  4. Meanders • A meander is a river bend. • Water flows slowly on the inside of a meander, where silt is deposited and quickly on the outside where erosion continues to occur.

  5. The Mouth • The mouth is the widest part of the river when the river meets the sea. • The mouth of the River Severn meets the Bristol Channel!
