Women’s lacrosse vs. men’s lacrosse scoring - 2019 Kailin Nelson, Chatham University David Howell, Cabrini University 2019 ECAC-SIDA Workshop June 5, 2019 Framingham, MA
Draw control vs. Faceoff • Faceoff • Win determined by clear possession not offensive opportunity • Ground ball awarded • Draw Control • Awarded to player who controls the ball in the air or on the ground
Ground Balls • Men’s Lacrosse • Any contested loose ball • Faceoffs • Shots • Ball going out of bounds/across midline • Women’s Lacrosse • Change of possession during live ball play • Following a shot (2 exceptions)
Clears – Women’s LAcrosse • Gain possession behind defensive restraining line, carry to offensive attack area
Clears – men’s lacrosse • Gain possession behind defensive restraining line, cross midfield at 60 seconds • Where is ball with 60 seconds left on clock? • Long pass must be controlled by offense
Women’s lacrosse Cards • 2 yellow cards on individual– must serve full time and no re-enter • 4 yellow cards on team – must serve full time • Green Card – 1 minute • Yellow Card – 2 minutes • Red Card – 2 minutes
Men’s lacrosse penalties • Disqualification after accumulating 5 minutes • Technical (Minor) – 30 seconds • Personal (Major) – 60 seconds • Could be 2-3 minutes at the referees discretion
Helpful hints • Meet with officials prior to game (penalty/possession clock procedures) • Allow officials to determine possession clock resets • Shots on goal, change of possession, penalties/cards, offsides (WLAX) • Separate responsibilities for scoring and possession clocks • In MLAX, separate responsibility for scoring and subs • MLAX starters are not players on field for faceoff, but 1st attack, midfield, defense and GK • Use multiple sets of eyes • Don’t be afraid to ask coaches and players • Keep Statisticians’ Manual on hand • Take advantage of fall play days, scrimmages, intrasquad games, other local colleges
