  2. Dental Hygiene • Dental Hygiene is extremely important to a person’s overall health. If proper care is not taken, many health issues can arise. Plaque will build up on tooth surfaces, gum disease can arise, and not brushing will turn teeth a yellow color and rot. Many adults do not brush and floss regularly which can lead to these problems. According to the Center for Disease Control, 26.8% of adults have a dental issue that is untreated. It is important to brush and floss regularly, attend appointments with a dentist, and receive dental cleanings regularly. • Purpose of Survey • The purpose of this survey was to see how college students are taking care of their teeth. With this information I hope to make people more aware of the importance of having healthy teeth. • How Was the Survey Conducted? • This survey was conducted by sample of convenience. An e-mail was sent out to ten classmates and all responded. I did not need to send a follow up e-mail. Dental Hygiene

  3. Survey Results

  4. Question and Results • Results • 90% of people surveyed answered that they brush their teeth twice a day. Only 10% said they brush their teeth once a day. • These results suggest that most people brush their teeth twice a day, which is an excellent way to keep teeth healthy. The 10% that only brush once a day show that there is a small percent of people that need to spend more time taking care of their teeth. • Discussion • How often do you brush your teeth? Brush Teeth

  5. Question and Results • Results • The results display that most people brush their teeth in the morning and before bed. There were no responses that people never brush their teeth. • These are excellent results and all of the people answered brush their teeth at the appropriate times that are best to keep teeth healthy. • Discussion • What time of day are you most likely to brush your teeth? Brush Teeth Twice a Day

  6. Question and Results • Results • 70% of people answered they use a toothpaste that contains fluoride. 30% did not know if their toothpaste contained fluoride. • Fluoride is very important and helps prevent cavities. There should be more awareness to the importance of fluoride so that more people use toothpaste with it and know what it does. • Discussion • Do you use a toothpaste that contains fluoride? Use Toothpaste with Fluoride

  7. Question and Results • Results • 50% of people answered they are most likely to go to the dentist every six months, 50% said they are somewhat likely to go every six months. Only seven people answered the next two questions. Of those seven, 57.1% are somewhat likely to go to the dentist every three months, 42.9% answered they never go every three months. 100% answered they never not go to the dentist. • The results show that all people surveyed go to the dentist at least twice a year. This is excellent and in order to have healthy teeth a person should get a cleaning and visit the dentist at least twice a year. • Discussion • Do you use a toothpaste that contains fluoride? Visit the Dentist

  8. What Do You Do to Keep Your Teeth Healthy? • 10 people answered this question and many common themes appeared throughout the responses: • Brush twice a day and floss at least every other day. • Brush and rinse. • Floss and use mouth wash. • Brush, floss, and mouth wash. • Floss and brush daily. • I brush at least twice a day, floss, and use mouthwash.
