  2. Why Is Incident Management Important In Metro Atlanta? 75% of the daily congestion in Georgia. Atlanta has approximately 50% of the daily travel and...

The Cost of Traffic Incidents • More than 50% of traffic congestion is caused by non-recurring incidents. • 43% of all LEOs killed in the line of duty from 1997-2006 died in traffic related incidents. • 18 firefighters died in traffic incidents in 2005 alone. • Metro Atlanta congestion costs residents more than 100 Million hours and $2 Billion annually.   12. What is TRIP? Georgia Towing and Recovery Incentive Program • Initiative of the TIME Task Force • TRIP is a Quick Clearance incentive program to pay heavy-duty recovery companies a monetary bonus for clearing commercial vehicle incidents within 90 minutes

TRIP Program Incident Criteria Major commercial vehicle Incidents on Atlanta-Metro Freeways • Tractor, Semi-Trailer Combo (Class 8) • Trucks > 26,000 lbs (Class 7 or 8) • Large Motor Homes & Motor Coaches (Class 5 or 6) • Busses ≥ 16 passengers (Class 6, 7, or 8) • Aircraft involved incident on a freeway

  15. TRIP Specifics • Required Equipment • 30 Ton Wrecker • 40 Ton Rotator/50 Ton Wrecker • Support Vehicle, fully loaded • Sander, skid steer w/sweeper, flat beds • Incentive Bonus • $2500: 90 Minute Clearance • $3500: 90 Minute Clearance + Extra Equipment

  16. Training requirements • Traffic Incident Management-“Quick Clearance” • Hazardous Materials Awareness • MUTCD & DOT Flagger training • Level I Towing and Recovery, Operators • Level II Advanced Recovery, Supervisors • NIMS-Incident Command System • 8 hours of continuing education yearly
