Daily Objective 8-27-13 • Supplies: Cornell Notes sheet and Pink Paper • Essential Question • What factors lead to the early human migration patterns, and how did this affect where early civilizations began? • Warm-up (10 Minutes) • Personal Timeline: Use the PINK sheet of paper • Directed Instruction (15 Minutes) • Cornell Notes • Guided Practice (15 Minutes) • Cause and Effect Organizer

  2. Warm Up • Use the colored sheets to create a personal time of your life (Pink) • You need to add at least 5 events from your life • You will have 5 minutes to complete • We will go over them together

  3. Early Human Migration Patterns • Great Rift Valley • Early Humans • Paleolithic Age • Nomads • Stone Tools

  4. Reasons for Migration • Nomads in search of food • Followed the herds of animals • As Foraging and food supplies ran low in one area, humans would migrate to another area with more food • Changing of the Climate: End of the Ice Age

Migration Patterns • Africa • Bantu Migration of West Africa • Europe • Celtic: Northern Europe and would eventually move into all parts of Europe • Greek: Southern Europe and would eventually form City-States and the Greek Empires • Asia/South Pacific • Settled in the Indus River Valley in India • Austronesia Migration • Eventually became part of the early Chinese Dynasties • Americas • Bering Strait Migration: Originated in Asia and migrated over the land bridge from Asia to North America

Guided Practice: Cause and Effect Organizer (15 Minutes) • Take what you have learned in your notes and create a cause and effect graphic organizer on the back of your timeline activity • Example will be on the board • You make work with your group members but each student will need their own copy
