  12. Shared Reach a consensus on something that is valued by your leadership team/club. In membership, the goal shouldn’t be just to increase numbers: it should be made to enrich the quality of your club. Look for a balance. Young/old. Male/female Sales/NFP/law/medicine/business/ Talk about what your club is now and what you (all) want it to be
  13. Measurable “increase membership” is too broad. In 2012-2013 the XXX Club will increase its membership by 10% (4 members). Put some checks along the way. Look at where you are by September, again in November.

Challenging *If your club typically gets a couple of members per year, boost the goal. *If your club hasn’t gotten a new member in the past, shoot for one. *If your club gets two new members but looses a couple, then look at closing the back door. *This is an opportunity for you to ask the deeper questions: why AREN’T we showing growth? Most often it is because we don’t offer enough to retain new members:
  15. Deeper questions Is the environment of the club welcoming—are there cliques? Inner circles and outer circles? Is there an opportunity for every member to be involved (and valued)? Is there genuine fellowship (laugh or at least a smile) Is there clear purpose: good works Do you have a flagship project that creates pride in being a Rotarian in your community
  16. Achievable A goal needs to be high enough to aim for and low enough to be within reach. Impossible goals defeat everyone. Don’t be afraid to fall short because that’s another opportunity for deeper conversations
  17. Time specific A good goal will have a deadline A better goal will have benchmarks along the way toward that deadline.
  18. How should goals be created? 1. Data driven. This is a tremendous learning opportunity for your club to learn about themselves. 2. In concert with your leadership team (Board meeting) or with your club (Club assembly). 3. Share to goals with the club. Report on the progress toward the goal.
  19. After a goal has consensus and is set Share with your AG Solicit your AG for support in meeting your goals.   24. Strengthen Our Club First: two options to choose from a. Adopt a three-year strategic plan for the club, indentifying specific annual and long term goals Or…. b.   25. 3 additional activities Conduct a club assessment/visioning activity and initiate changes such as, revised committee structure, meeting times, meeting procedures based on feedback. Strengthen our Club: additionals (2) Undertake an innovative (effective) approach to attracting and retaining members and achieve a net gain of at least one member between July 1 and March 1 Analyze why members are leaving the club and create an action plan to maintain a member retention rate of at least 85% 5970 Pre-PETS Webinar 2012
  27. Strengthen our club: additionals (3) Encourage member engagement by ensuring that every member has personally participated in at least one service activity and one club social activity. Strengthen our Clubs: additonals (5) Adopt a program for the leadership development of all members or ensure that each club member is assigned a specific role in your club’s leadership development goal for the year; either in a leadership position or as a member of a club committee, subcommittee or project initiative.     Undertake a significant public image campaign in your community to communicate what Rotary is and does by using RI’s Humanity in Motion or “This Close” advertisements.

Enhance our Club’s Public Image: additionals Have a PR professional review the club’s current promotional and public outreach pieces to ensure that they’re appealing and relevant to the general public.   44. Enhancing vocational service… Start a career counseling or vocational training program and invite non-Rotarian participants from the community to attend. Organize a discussion or group workshop on maintaining high ethical standards in the workplace and invite local non-Rotarian business leaders to attend Organize at least one professional networking event in which club members meet other local professionals and introduce them to Rotary.   45. Enhancing vocational service… Hold at least one fellowship networking or collaborative event that is open to the public. Use the opportunity to introduce non-Rotarians to Rotary.
