  1. The Man Who Was Poe Written by Avi Power Point by Rain Lybbert and Emerson Vogel

  2. What’s the mystery? Edmund’s dear mother has been missing for a year, his aunt has been missing for a few days, and his sister was stolen. To add to the many other problems, millions of dollars in gold was stolen from the bank. Will Mr. Dupin be able solve the mystery and reunite him with his family?

  3. What category of mystery does this book fall into? We think this mystery novel is a combination of a gothic novel and detective story. • There is a romantic subplot that involves Mr. Dupin and Mrs. Whitman. • The settings are sometimes very dark and in some cases, kind of scary. • Mr. Dupin plays an unprofessional detective who tries to solve the mystery.

  4. SUSPENSE and UNCERTAINTY • Mr. Dupin was grabbed in the cemetery, then the chapter ended. That made us want to keep reading. • We were left in suspense when the chapter ended right after Mr. Dupin opened the door to the room in the building next to Aunt Pru’s tenement. • Edmund was uncertain when he was followed by an unknown person on the docks. He wasn’t certain about who was followig him.

  5. CLUES • The pearl button that was found in the apartment across from Aunt Pru’s apartment. • Mr. Dupin found a piece of rope and another pearl button in the vault at the bank. These are considered clues because they led Mr. Dupin to realizations and it makes the reader (and Mr. Dupin) think about other possibilities and the sloution to the problem.

  6. SUSPECTS • Mr. Throck • He was at the dock when the dead women was found • He questions Mr. Dupin a lot • He followed Mr. Dupin to the cemetery • Mr. Fortney • He was the one that found the dead body at the dock • Edmund thinks that Mr. Fortney was following him at the dock

  7. The Ending/Conclusion Edmund, Mr. Dupin, and Mr. Throck were chasing Mr. Ratchett, and Randolf in a boat called the Sunshine, whiolch was also carrying Sis and the stolen gold. After being chased for a while, Sis jumped off of the Sunshine. Then the Sunshine flipped over and sank. Mr. Ratchett and Randolf didn’t survive, and the gold was lost in the deep bay. Edmund and his family were reunited, except for his lost Aunt Pru.
