  1. Textual Analysis of Collateral

  2. Location(s)/Setting The first was a typical location of a thriller film, being what look liked an airport, this gives the idea that things such as the changing of the bags can be very common in this sort of normal setting.  Second was a taxi rank, with bright yellow taxis, with loud men talking and busy suggesting the locations is New York. Using a big city is a very typical and straight forward setting and most thrillers are set in typical places.

  3. Lighting/colour stock The lighting was quite bright in the airport suggesting the middle of the day with loads of people walking around. The taxi rank was quite warm with the red and yellow suggest it may be hot, perhaps stuffy but not much natural lighting and high contrast and saturation.

  4. The Characters Tom cruise – grey hair, grey suit, black sunglasses.  Taxi guy – baggy hoody, glasses not very well dressed. Tom cruise is a wealthy guy and walking with a stride that suggests he’s good at what he does  Taxi driver dressed a bit shabby nothing expensive like an average guy

  5. Props Tom cruise is carrying a black suitcase which is carrying something unknown, he is also wearing sunglasses to hide his identity.  Taxi guy has a cloth thing to wipe his steering wheel, for personal higeine and a photo of what looks like to be his happy place. There is an innocent bystander (the taxi man) out for his daily shift and then the villain hiding his identity and being suspicious with the changing of the suitcases. Because of the suitcase change we are left asking questions as to why and what’s the relevance of the perhaps the photo in the taxi.

  6. Actors Performance Vincent is a very strong character and is very sure of what he is doing. He is walking quickly with confidence. When bumping into the guy at the change of suitcases he checks twice to see if he is alright, but to actually check he didn’t hurt the guy but to check everything is alright to go ahead with in the mission. When walking off quickly it shows he is in a hurry to get somewhere. Max is waiting for his taxi when we see him first, our first look at him shows that he isn’t very wealthy but seems like a nice calm guy who doesn’t like to interact with other work colleagues and keeps himself to Himself. When getting his taxi he begins to clean it with some spray which suggests he likes hygiene. These sort of actions give us an idea that he is a calm, collective character who just wants to get on with a normal days work.
