Merck is establishing an Asia Research & Development (R&D) organization and has committed $1.5 billion to R&D in China over the next five years. Merck is known as Merck Sharp & Dohme Limited (MSD) outside the United States and Canada. The Discovery and Preclinical Sciences group in China seeks a creative, self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills to join our dynamic drug discovery and development team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our external strategic partners to solve process chemistry problems in the widest sense, and will be responsible for designing, developing and optimizing synthetic routes for the preparation of active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates. Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in synthetic organic chemistry and at least 5 years of experience in process chemistry and development. Strong skills of collaboration and communication in English - and preferably Mandarin - are critical since the candidate will be expected to influence external scientific partners in China and across the globe.
