  2. Our Eco Councillors

  3. Autumn 2010 We started the year by talking about what it means to be an Eco school…we had lots of ideas • To pick up litter and make everyone responsible • Look at how much water, electricity and gas we are using. Help Mr McGoldrick to read the meters • Sort paper ready to be recycled • Grow plants in our garden • Help our friends to know what we are doing when we speak to them in class and if we tell them in assembly • Use different bins for paper and food

  4. Autumn 2010 • Minutes • Murwah takes down the minutes of meetings. • Caitlin helps Murwah type down all the things we discuss in the meeting, on the computer. • Tyler & Lucy collect the downstairs recycling. • Kyle & Lauren collect the upstairs recycling. • Megan & Jack collect things to make compost. • Simon & Jacob read the electricity, water & gas meters. • Jamie & Ellis make signs on the computer.

  5. Autumn 2010 • We decided that we needed a new ‘Eco Code’ to help us remember all the things we need to do. Last year the Eco club designed a new logo so it was our job to make an Eco Code to help us remember that ‘small steps make big differences’

  6. Autumn 2010 • We decided that we would use the letters in ‘small’ and ‘big’ from our Eco logo to help us remember what our action plan targets were. Sort paper for recycling Monitor Energy- water, gas and electricity Assemblies- tell all the children how they can help on a regular basis Litter- pick up any rubbish Lunchboxes- monitor lunchboxes to make sure we all eat ‘healthy’ food Steps… Bins- compost and litter for fruit and rubbish Involve everyone in school, we are all responsible! Gardening- look after our class planters and the school garden and trees Differences!

  7. Autumn 2010 • We took part in an ‘Environmental Review’ this looked at all the different parts of being an Eco School. We went around the school to find out what was happening and what action could help to make our school better. Mrs Richards typed up what we found out and we put it on the website for everyone to see. We used what we found out and what we knew already about Eco to help us set our action targets for this year.

  8. Action plan! We did a new action plan for this year 2 new bins for yard. Empty paper bins in meetings. Fix taps in the girls’ toilets, which are leaking. Make posters. Get a plastic bin & a food bin. Start recycling batteries. Recycle mobile phones and ink cartridges

  9. Autumn 2010 • You can see our Action plan on the website in the Eco section in a folder called ‘Action Plans’

  10. Autumn 2010 • We had a whole school assembly and told everyone what jobs the Eco club will be helping everyone to do. • We told all the children that the fruit bins would be on the yard and the recycling will be emptied when the bins get full • We told all the classes that they should still have a scrap paper tray and to use both sides of the paper.

  11. We are ALL responsible We monitor how ‘eco-friendly’ each class is. We award the best infant and junior class with a certificate in our ‘Eco’ assembly.

  12. Recycling • We empty recycling bins and ensure the paper is ready for ‘Wastesavers’ to collect.

  16. Spring 2011 • We started our new term with an ‘Eco Matters’ Day to help everyone know about what is important for us to be an Eco School. Each class worked on a different topic for the day and made a poster to help us remember the important things we have to do. The winning poster from each class went on the board in the main entrance for us all to see.

  17. Spring 2011 • After the ‘Eco Matters’ Day Mrs Richards and Mr Brown worked with everyone in Eco club for the whole morning and we talked about what our class did and what we found out. • We decided which posters were the winners from the classes • We told the teachers what we wanted to say in our ‘Eco’ assembly

  18. Spring 2011 The winners from each class were: • Reception- all the children made one big poster of the water cycle and talked about not wasting water and where water comes from • Reception/ Year One- Tyler • Year 1/2- Thomas • Year 2- Ethan B • LC1- Ahmed • LC2- Nabil • Year 3- Khloe • Year ¾- Kayleigh • Year 4- Caitlin, Alice, Daniel, Tia and Dominic • Year 5- Jed • Year 6- Whole Class Poster

  19. Spring 2011 Minutes from Wednesday 12th January • We decided who won from each class • We talked about what each class learnt on Eco Day • In our meeting we have decided different people are going to have our monitoring jobs • We welcome Alicia and Emily from Year 2 as they wanted to join Eco and we are glad because they have lots of ideas! • We decided that our Energy monitoring would be done by a class and we would change every half term- this half term Mrs Ward’s Year 6 class are going to help and make a graph with the readings • We had lots of people who said they wanted to help to take the fruit bins out so we are going to work together and make sure the fruit bins are out everyday- Lauren, Jack, Alicia, Emily, Iestyn, Lucy, Charlotte and Bradley. • We want to look at the germs scanner that Mrs Ward looked at. Mrs Richards said we could learn how to use it in an Eco meeting. • We thought of some more ideas to help rubbish, we still want to have the recycling bins on the yard and in the staff room. We would also like litter pickers for the yard. • We told Mrs Richards and Mr Brown what we wanted to tell the other children in assembly, Mrs Richards helped us to write it down and we all practised.
