  1. WP2 - WP3 joint session on climate tools to support climate services Wrap-up Samuel Somot (CNRM) Roma, July 2013 http://www.climrun.eu

  2. Summarize of the Tuesday WP2-WP3 science session • General issues (not limited to WP2-WP3 duties): • Need for a common effort towards homogenisation of the CLIM-RUN products • Common practices for reference period ! Difficult issue, 20-year period in CMIP5, 1961-1990 in ENSEMBLES, 1976-2005 in CORDEX, ... adopt a common phrasing « reference period » • All products must be presented as an information sheet: use the CLIM-RUN common format, sheets have to be seen as a “gate” to or as a summarize of the products • Work to be done on the protocol for naming, validating and publishing of the information sheets Not all the products will be finalised but let's try to go as far as possible for some of them, meaning (i) internal review and certification, (ii) stakeholder feedbacks and (iii)evaluation of the usefulness for the stakeholder

  3. Summarize of the Tuesday WP2-WP3 science session What is missing from WP2 and WP3 ? • Sharing the WP2 product list • Writing and sharing the WP3 list … COMMON WP2 WP3 list • We recall here the key role of the couple Stakeholder Expert – Climate Expert to follow the “production” process for their case study • Product list to be checked in priority: Adriatic integrated case and Cyprus tourism  • New energy need: sectorial indicator related to energy production • New tourism need: coastal biochemical state, jelly fish, algae issues • Sea level representation: CMCC, ENEA, CNRM • Better define and coordinate the information sheets on extreme indices: UEA, CMCC, UC, CNRM, ICTP • There is an interest for information sheets based on “project presentation” • Use of the Med-CORDEX simulations (12 km, coupled runs) started ... to be put in a wider context (CMIP5, ENSEMBLES) to deal with uncertainty + added value • Interaction between TEC, CNRM and ICTP for lake and snow products in Savoie • Try to define at least one aerosol potential production map (Energy case study): IC3, ICTP, CNRM

  4. Summarize of the Tuesday WP2-WP3 science session Scientific articles including part of WP2 and WP3 work: • SDS of non-standard parameters (FWI, PET): UC x 2 • FWI climate change in RCMs: NOA • Decadal forecast for the Mediterranean area: IC3 + CMCC ? • Wind evaluation and climate change in RCMs: ENEA • Uncertainty in regional ocean scenarios including sea level: CNRM • Aerosol Mediterranean climatology: CNRM • Aerosol impact on surface radiation and Mediterranean climate: CNRM • TCI computation from observations to RCM: TEC • Added-value of 12km (Med-CORDEX) simulations: CNRM, NOA, UEA, UC, ENEA ? • Use of multi-physics ensemble of 50km Med-CORDEX runs: ICTP • Anything on seasonal forecast for wind/solar energy ? • Anything on extreme indices ? UEA ? • Anything on lake modelling ? CNRM, ICTP ? • Anything on SST scenario in CIRCE runs ??? • Multi-model sea level in CIRCE ? CMCC ? • Climate change response in shortwave in RCMs ? [already done in ENSEMBLES and CIRCE]
