Do’s & Don’ts of sending email • Don’ts: • Ask a question in the subject field • Assume a new contact will recognize your email address • Use subject field to reminder them why you are writing to them • Do’s: • Include a brief and descriptive phrase about content • Use proper capitalization, grammar, sentence structure, greeting, & closing. • Think about the tone • Change the subject heading to reflect a change in conversation’s focus
Importance of tone in email • Tone – the way receiver “hears” your message. • Remember, the receiver cannot see you or your body language in email • Importance of tone cannot be understated- it lays the foundation for future communication- in person or continued through email.
