Welcome to Geometry! I'm Mrs. Reilly, a dedicated teacher at Norwin since 2010, with a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering. In this course, we delve beyond mere shapes, exploring essential topics such as points, lines, angles, proofs, triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, trigonometry, and circles. This is a rigorous high school mathematics class where active participation and effort are vital. Communication is key, so feel free to reach out via email or text. Let's make this a successful and engaging learning experience!

Welcome to Geometry! Mrs. Reilly Pd 2, 4, 6, 7
Introduction • Who is this person attempting to teach your teenager about proofs and shapes?? • Education/Work Background: • BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from WVU in the late 1980s. • Worked in nuclear and telecommunications industry for 12 years. • Returned to school for teaching certification from University of Pittsburgh • Began teaching at Norwin in 2010 • I currently teach Physics II and Geometry
Course Overview • Geometry isn’t actually just about “shapes”! • We cover the following topics: • Points, lines, planes, angles • Proofs (yes, we will all survive proofs!) • Congruent and similar triangles • Pythagorean Theorem • Trigonometry • Shapes • Circles
Course Rigor • This is a high-school level mathematics class. We are not in middle school anymore, and this is not a remedial course. • Students need to participate actively, put forth appropriate effort on homework, seek help when needed. • Tutoring is available every MONDAY after school, in the library. (I try to schedule quizzes/tests on Tuesday when possible)
Communication • Email is best! sreilly@norwinsd.org • Skyward! • Traveling teachers are difficult to reach by phone. You can try 724-861-3805 but it rings in a room that I am not in very often. • Your child can find me: • Homeroom 230 before school • Office 205A after school
Communication, cont’d • How about texting? • I have a website which allows me to send out mass-texts to parents. To participate: Text @REILLYGEOMETRY to (818) 351-7905 • I won’t see your cell # and you won’t see mine. I am setting this up with the students as well.
Speaking of texting…. • Norwin has wireless now and a BYOD policy. • We will use technology as often as we can in class. • Ready to try it out?? • (All you need is a phone that can text.)
