Who are we? • ​National Blue Ribbon 2013 Recipient • ​Palmetto’s Finest Finalist • Exemplary Writing recognition 2012 to 2014 • ​2012-13 Demographics:​ 650 students • ​​65% Caucasian • ​​13% African American • ​​16% Hispanic/Latino • ​​Less than 1% Asian/Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander • ​46% Free & Reduced Lunch • ​1 of 5 Elementary schools in Bluffton Cluster of BCSD • ​Bluffton population increased 882% from 2000 to 2010

Goal 1:​ Increase Awareness & Communication to Parents about School District Issues • Constant growth • New schools • Re-zoning • Office for Civil Rights agreement compliance • ​Monthly Communications • Newsletters • E-Blasts • Emails • Letters to parents • Robo-calls • ​Encourage parents & community to attend Board Meetings

Goal 2:​ Create Mentoring Program • Initiated by SIC in 2012 with 13 girls and 10 boys attending weekly meetings • Focus on student confidence, respect for self and others • Encourage positive behavior and being a role model for peers • Based on The Peters Group curriculum • Believe in the importance of mentoring students • Encouraging students to help each other grow as learners & citizens • Mentors include • Assistant Principal • Members of SIC • Coaches & Guest speakers • Activities • Volunteer/community service • Attending the Nutcracker performance • Dinner outings • Movie Outing

Goal 3:​ Continue HOOT Bag Food Donation Program • ​Grew from 12 families to 25 • ​Participating families receive a weeks worth of Food per month • Grains • Canned meats • Cereal • Snacks • Fruits • Vegetables • Strong community support • Backpack Buddies of Bluffton • Lowcountry Food Bank • Wal-Mart • Churches • Local businesses

  7. Goal 4:​ Create Safe & More Efficient Car Rider Line • Better use of carpool lines • Cell phone free zone • Frequent communications to parents regarding pick up & drop off safety
