    2. Purpose of Todays Presentation To review the process for developing an improvement plan using the Center on Innovation and Improvements (CII) web-based planning tool

    4. What is the Center on Innovation and Improvement (CII)? CII is a national content center that supports regional centers in their work with states to provide districts, schools, and families, with the opportunity, information, and skills to make wise decisions on behalf of students. CII is a national content center supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. (Award #S283B050057) In 2007, CII released its Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement for use by regional comprehensive centers in their work with states.

    5. What are Rapid Improvement Indicators? Based on the work of Dr. Sam Redding 82 research-based indicators that have been proven to improve student performance in low-performing schools by focusing on the quick wins Schools that are in Title I improvement per NCLB Schools that are Conditionally Accredited per the Regulations Establishing Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia (SOA)

Center on Innovation and Improvement (CII) Six-Step Improvement Plan CII has developed a web-based planning tool to assist schools/divisions with developing improvement plans based on the rapid improvement indicators. Step 1 Register school/division Step 2 Provide school/division information Step 3 Form school/division team Step 4 Assess school/division indicators Step 5 Create school/division plan Step 6 Monitor school/division plan

    8. Focus Questions: Step 2 (Provide school/ division information) How and when did the school/division organize to collect the needs assessment data? What plan is in place for continuous updating of the data, as needed? What additional data may be needed?

    12. Focus Questions: Step 3 (Form a School/Division Team) How and when did the school/division select the appropriate team members to serve on the school/division improvement team? How will the school/division improvement team inform all staff members of decisions made during the meetings? Is there a schedule of meetings for the school/division improvement team? How will the school/division improvement team garner input from staff members?

Focus Questions: Step 4 (Assess school/district indicators) How will the school/division improvement team involve the entire staff in the selection of rapid improvement/district improvement indicators that address the needs of the school/division? What data were used to determine the needs of the school/division? How was consensus reached regarding the 5-6 indicators that were ultimately selected?

Focus Questions: Step 5 (Create school/division plan) Describe the process that the school/division team used to determine the appropriate tasks needed to accomplish each objective (indicator). How did the school/division team decide who would manage or be responsible for task attainment? How and when will task managers report to the school/division team? Entire faculty? How is the continual review of data, for possible plan revision, built into the planning process? Are the ten required NCLB components included?

    24. Focus Questions: Step 6 (Monitor school/division plan) Are the rapid/district improvement indicators and the resulting tasks included as integral components of the staff meeting agenda? Describe how the online monitoring tool will be used during staff meetings as well as grade-level/content area team meetings. What steps have been developed to monitor the school/division plan?
