  11. PRINCIPLE OF SHAME AND HONOR AND GLORY

  12. Honor • esteem • respect • (high) regard • giving a place of recognition • maintaining a (good) reputation

  13. Shame • the opposite of honor • humiliation or loss of standing • loss of position • disregard

  14. To honor is to recognize the value of someone or something and then to act accordingly. To honor can mean to reward with tangible signs of respect (2 Chron. 16:14; Esth. 6:8-11). • To shame someone is to challenge that person’s reputation or to disregard their worth.

  15. 6 key areas of HONOR

  16. 1. Honor GOD

  17. Num 25:11-13 (NIV) "Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honour among them, so that in my zeal I did not put an end to them. He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honour of his God and made atonement for the Israelites."

  18. Honor God: • to give respect towards God • to give Him right standing and position • to regard his opinion and preference • to give due attention towards God and to acknowledge Him!

  19. 1 Sam 2:30 (NIV) "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that your house and your father's house would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.

  20. Honoris an intentional decision

  21. Mal 2:2 (NIV) If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honour my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honorme.

  22. Lack of honorshuts heaven & the miraculous towards you

  23. Mat 13:57 (NIV) And they took offence at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."

  24. 2. HonorGENDER

  25. Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves.

  26. Honour gender partnerships

  27. Genesis 3:15 5 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspringand hers; he will crushyour head, and you will strike his heel.’

  28. Rom 12:10 (NLT) Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

  29. Honorwithin marriage between husbands and wives

  30. 1 Pet 3:7 (NIV) Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

  31. Honorfor marriage and sexual intimacy

  32. Heb 13:4 (NIV) Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

  33. Hebrews 13:4 (NLT) All of you should honor marriage. You should keep the marriage bed pure. God will judge the person who commits adultery. He will judge everyone who commits sexual sins.

  36. Honoryour parents

  37. Ex. 20:12 12 ‘Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

  38. Honoring parents • “kabad” (Ex. 20:12), • The Hebrew word for honor is KABAD – same word that is translated glory! • this includes financial provision

  39. 1 Tim 5:8 8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

  40. Partnership between generations

  41. 1 Timothy 5:1-8 5 Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.3 Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. 4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. 5 The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help. 6 But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives. 7 Give the people these instructions, so that no one may be open to blame. 8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

  42. 4. HonorRacial and National backgrounds

  43. God has a place of honorfor every person from every nation

  44. Rev 7: 9-13 After this I looked, and there in front of me was a huge crowd of people. They stood in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb. There were so many that no one could count them. They came from every nation, tribe, people and language. They were wearing white robes. In their hands they were holding palm branches. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne. Salvation also belongs to the Lamb." 11 All the angels were standing around the throne. They were standing around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces in front of the throne and worshiped God. 12 They said, "Amen! May praise and glory and wisdom be given to our God for ever and ever. Give him thanks and honor and power and strength. Amen!" 13 Then one of the elders spoke to me. "Who are these people dressed in white robes?" he asked. "Where did they come from?"

  45. 5. Honor YOUR word and YOUR PROMISE

  46. Eccl 5:2-6 (NIV) Do not be quick with your mouth; do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words. When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfil your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfil it. Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, "My vow was a mistake."

  47. Isaiah 55 – Picture of God’s word being reliable

  48. Mat 5:33-37 (NIV) "Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

  50. Rom 13:7 (NIV) Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
