This study explores the experiences of transfer students at Penn State Harrisburg. Conducted in Fall 2011, our research reveals that a significant portion of transfer students (75% female) come from diverse educational backgrounds, with 44% transferring from other colleges. Main reasons for transferring include academic majors and campus dissatisfaction. Our findings indicate that 63% prefer PSH to their previous institutions, and 69% enjoy the campus food services. Overall, most students find the transfer process manageable and have successfully made new friends.

Here, at Penn State Harrisburg • Based off of Fall 2011.
Purpose of our study. • Each year thousands of students either transfer from school to school, or make a change of campus. • The three of us came from different campuses • We wanted to find out who is a transfer student, where and why did they transfer • And, what they think about being here at Harrisburg.
Gender & Age • Of those who were surveyed: 75% were female and 25% male. 17-20 57% 21-25 19% 26-29 6% 30+ 18%
Where did they come from? • Only 25% of those surveyed came from another Penn State campus • 44% transferred from another college/university
Why PSH? • 44% came here because of their major • 6% because of finances • 6% because they did not like previous campus • 6% because they came from military • 38% did not transfer
Where do you live? • Everyone who we surveyed, transfer or not live off campus.
Was transferring easy? • Of those who did transfer many thought their transfer was average. 6% 13% 19% 25%
So which campus do you like more? • For those who transferred, 63% prefer PSH than their previous campus/university • With 19% liking their previous location
Every college student has to eat right? • When asked if they enjoy the food services here on campus: • 69% said yes they enjoy it • 6% said their old campus was better • And 25% said they do not eat from the campus food services.

Activities • We asked on a scale of 1-5 what do you think of the activities here on campus? 5=best, 1= worst 5= 19% 4= 25% 3= 37% N/A= 19%

Conclusion • Many students at PSH are transfer students. • Most are here because of their major • The transfer process was not easy nor hard • People here like the food services • Harrisburg’s library is pretty good • As are the activities offered here • And finally, it was not hard making new friends here.
