  3. How not to begin your paper: • Hi, my name is… • Today, I’m going to tell you about… • I hope you’ll like my story about… • You are going to learn about…

  4. Questions • What is the truth? • How would you feel if the principal suddenly announced that there would be no more PE classes, only Study Skills? • Who is a person I would like to honor by placing his or her face on a coin? • What has my generation offered that no other before it has done?

  5. Quote “Accidents happen.” We’ve all heard that before, right? Usually from your mother trying to convince you that something wasn’t your fault when you knocked something over or broke a jar. But what happens when something dies? “Accidents happen,” fall short, doesn’t it? At least that is what I thought when Mom said, “Accidents happen,” when McDuff died.

  6. Dialogue “Welcome to Build-a-Bear workshop, the happiest place on earth!” A spastic woman with a giant grin plastered on her petite face greeted us. She acted like a child whose parents had been foolish enough to feed her sugar before bed. I just smirked; wondering who in their right minds would want to go to a place where you build your own teddy, or as they call it, “Your new best friend,” when you could be lounging around playing with your good Christmas gifts. Why did my grandmother have to drag the whole family to watch my baby sister stuff a bear?

  7. Strong Statement/ Anecdote BAM was the sound that echoed through my ears the day that death tried to chase me down. The chaos started on a Thursday on Goodson Street. My cousin and I were walking down the street on our way to Pino’s Pizza. As soon as we turned the corner, a group of men were standing against the wall. “Ah! We ain’t in school now. You can’t beat up my little brother. Now you got to deal with me,” one of the men taunted.
