  2. ASENT RBD Analysis – Reliability with Repair ASENT’s RBD Analysis tool supports a number of different model types. Elements can be modeled in series, parallel, series-parallel combinations, and complex active or standby redundancies. ASENT supports both Mission Reliability and Reliability with Repair. This presentation will focus on a Reliability with Repair example.   3. ASENT RBD Analysis – Reliability with Repair This tutorial assumes that you have already built a product tree structure for your project and that failure rates have been calculated and are current. If you need help with this please refer to the Introduction tutorial.

  4. Step 1 – Select Type of Analysis Two types of RBD analysis are available: 1) Mission Reliability, and 2) Mission Reliability with Repair. For this tutorial, select Reliability w/Repair.

  5. Step 2 – RBD Analysis Utility Menu From the RBD Analysis Utility menu, select the ‘Set Repair Defaults’ option.

  6. Step 3 – Edit Project Factors From the RBD Analysis Utility menu, select the ‘Set Repair Defaults’ option. Click on the Edit Project Factors button and set the values as desired. Click the OK button when you are finished setting the project factors.

  7. Step 4 – Specify Repair Defaults In this example we tell the tool to check lower level items and either populate or correct RBD data, if necessary. We also set the default mean-time-to-repair to 5 minutes. Since the Use MTBCF and MTTRF factors are checked, ASENT will use the MTBF and MTTR adjustment factors specified earlier when we edited the Project Factors. This is also where we set the default failover time to restore a function. This screen appears after the OK button is selected.

  8. Step 5 – Selecting the RBD Analysis Tab The default model is to model the blocks in series. When you click on the RBD Analysis tab in the Reliability Manager, it will display the associated model for the item selected. Click on the Edit option to change or refine the model.

  9. Step 6 – Editing and Refining the Model This figure shows the reliability worksheet for the selected item. We will change the model type to parallel by clicking on the ‘Change Model Type’ button.

  10. Step 7 – Specify Number of Required Elements Use the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons to increase or decrease the number of blocks or elements that are required for your parallel model. In this example, we say that out of the 3 elements in our model that 1 is required, and the failover time is 5 minutes. The type of calculation used depends on whether or not the failover time is less than the maximum allowed failover time that was set for the project.

  11. Step 8 – Reliability with Repair Results Click on the ‘Show Repair Results’ button to view the Reliability with Repair results.

  12. Step 9 – Select the View Diagram Button Click on the View Diagram button to view the new Reliability Block Diagram.

  13. Step 10 – Generating Reports To generate a report, right-click on the item of interest and select Reports | RBD Analysis.

  14. Generating Reports (Continued) The RBD Analysis report allows you to report on just the item that was selected or the entire subtree. Block diagrams can be included or omitted depending on the user’s preference. Select the report options, as desired, and click on the OK button.
