Photography Sarah Ratledge
Photography • The word Photography actually means “drawing with light” • I got interested in this career from seeing concert and sports photography on Instagram. • I like to research things about what kinds of education and info on the career to find out what kind of dedication I need.
5 Responsibilities • Taking pictures • Gear maintenance/equipment • Lighting/background • Budget/accounting/billing/pricing • Location (also model selection in some cases)
Working Conditions • Both physical and mental work is needed. • Both indoor and outdoor • You need to take pictures and think of creative ideas to do so. Also pictures are taken in and outdoors. Your hours are dependent on the customer. • You are working as an individual and able to come up with your own ideas.
TQA • You need a degree in something like digital photography, Lighting, Photo editing, or Film processing. • I plan on going to a university if I can to minor in photographer and major in something like law enforcement. • I plan on joining year book or art.
Job Outlook Percentile 10% 25% 50%(Median) 75% 90% Hourly $8.55 $9.88 $14.08 $21.63 $31.90 Annual Wage $17,770 $20,550 $29,280 $44,980 $66,360 In Michigan employment wage for photographers is declining which is why I am moving away either for orafter college Being in photography is very competitive I want to find openings in either the U.K or the south to be a tour photographer for touring bands and take photos for softball teams on the side.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ • My lifestyle goals are to get a great career if it isn’t photography and be able to support myself. • Average earnings are $55,000 per year. • I don’t really care to much about money as long as it gets me by. • My first purchase will be a house or a car.
Related Occupations • Film Industry would be a good backup plan. I’d like to direct movies. • Make sure everyone does there job right. • Conditions are relaxed. • Training is learned from art schools. • Makes good money.
Summary I feel like this project gave me a good out look on what being in photography would be like. The thing I look forward to the most is coming up with ideas for the pictures. I least look forward to negotiating the prices. Overall I learned what kind of responsibilities I’m going to try to take on.
