  44. Feature Comparison Service Specific 1. Metalogix tools supported

  45. Comparison with OfficeLive Workspace • OfficeLive is about bringing small businesses online with a Web Presence and tools to manage their customers and marketing campaigns (OLSB), and about allowing individual information workers to share documents across the internet (OLW). • OfficeLive is sold direct by Microsoft. • Features - collaboration functionality, and only a subset. One site per customer, no wikis, no blogs, no surveys, no flexible views on things like calendar and task lists, no WSS alerts or RSS feeds (although they have some sort of custom alert infrastructure), completely custom and non customizable document collaboration UI. No portal functionality, no search, no workflow, no BI, no content management, no forms. SharePoint Online is about bringing SharePoint and all its power and flexibility for collaboration and intranet functionality (ultimately) to you as a service. Targeting mid-market and enterprises.

  46. FAQ (1/3) • How does the shared service insure security of corporate data in multi tenant environment? • 9 layers of data security as described in BPOS core deck as well as SharePoint Online core deck. • When do you expect to have the "futures" from the Feature Comparison data which they provided us? • Expectation is to provide many of the futures as part of the 10.1 release (WAVE 14 based). • What, if any, impact to the cost will there be when those "futures" are built into the shared service? • The customer will be upgraded to the new release. At this point, we expect minimal impact. • The service description describes a 20 site collection limit.  If this flexible and how have other customers constructed their taxonomy around it? • We have discussed being flexible on this limit. If the need exists, we would need to understand the intended use and the customer would need to understand some performance issues around the portals. This is a case-by-case option that has not come up yet. • What is the process for restoring a site collection with your service?  How long does it take to complete a restore request generally?  Is back-up/restore defined at the site collection level, or at a more granular our coarse level? • We do not support back/restore via SharePoint designer. If you are asking for restoring files, you can use the recycle bin (described in SPO core deck). We do not currently offer recovery of a site collection if deleted by the customer. If items are corrupted, we will restore from backups.

  47. FAQ (2/3) • How granular is the administration console? For instance, can you create an administrator that only has the ability to administer a defined site collection? • You can create site collection administrators that can only administer a single site collection or even sub site. The enterprise admin, however has control over everything. • Can we provide URLs in SharePoint that link outside? I am assuming they have any firewall issues containing URLs (like a Notes links to one of our Notes DB) • This should work. Clicking on an external link in a SharePoint online page will take you to that external site. • Custom workflows are vague...can they provide specifics of what's in and what's out • Any workflow that you can create via SharePoint designer that doesn’t require the use of custom code on the server side is supported. We also include the three-stage out of the box workflow • Extranet capability where we can have a third party access our SharePoint site? • Today, we simulate extranet access by creating a user in SPO for every external user. This is not ideal but that’s what we got. • How do you handle migration tools that may need to be loaded on the SharePoint server? • Our service works with tools from partners such as Metalogix. We do not support installing tools on the server. Metalogix works well with our service, but even it is not 100% supported because they have a service that needs to be installed on the server to preserve meta data.

  48. FAQ (3/3) • How can we manage the URLs such that it remains the same whether we manage the site in house or with the hosting service? (Vanity domains) • Vanity URLs are not supported in our current release. • The challenge with redirecting through their routers, etc. is the SSL certificate. If your browser thinks you’re at Contoso.com and the certificate is for Contoso.sharepoint.microsoftonlne.com then you will get an alert. I have not heard of a successful solution here yet, but perhaps there is a solution. • Can it support custom business data workflows? • We do support custom workflows. However, if the question is about connections to on-premises business data sources, the answer is that customer would have to have a partner build a on-premises tool to pump the data into the service using a trusted subsystem model. We cannot reach into the customer site and pull the data. • What is the file size allowed in SharePoint Online Standard? • 50 MB. • Do we use ISA for authentication? • No. We use certificate based authentication in SharePoint Online Standard.
