Started in 1993 in a living room – brainchild of Richard Shaw DD to be a traditional support service for disabled people with 2 key additional aims : • To ensure we supported all disabled people including BME Communities • To avoid any campaigning www.disabilitydirect.com
DD initially funded by BT, Opps For Vols, Comic Relief, Scope 1st 4 years no funding from local authority – Why? www.disabilitydirect.com
Politics? • No real track record • We were not ready for LA funding!!! www.disabilitydirect.com

Vision • To create an adaptable & sustainable service • To work with anyone & everyone (whenever possible) • To behave like a commercial business www.disabilitydirect.com
Principles • Avoid ‘pointless’ / ‘aimless’ meetings • Leave the CEO to get on with it! • Not to complicate decision-making with red tape • Not to get tangled up in national decisions • Never bite the hand that feeds you! www.disabilitydirect.com
