  1. (Luke 15)

  2. (Jude 22-23) • And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. (NKJV)

  3. We Leave the Lord When We Lack Love For Him • (Matthew 22:37) • Jesus said to him," 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' (NKJV)

  4. We Leave the Lord When We Lack Love For Him • 1 Tim. 4:1-14 Paul has said, among other things… • instruct the brethren in the word of God (v. 6, 11) • Reject false teaching (v.7) • “godliness is profitable for all things” (v. 8) • “we trust in the living God” (v. 10) • “give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (v. 13)

  5. We Leave the Lord When We Lack Love For Him • (1 Timothy 4:15-16) • Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. (NKJV)

  6. We Leave the Lordby Listening to the Wrong Voices • (Acts 20:29-30) • "For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. "Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. (NKJV)

  7. We Leave the LordWhen We Feel the Demands of Following Him Are Too Great • (Matthew 16:24-26) Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (NKJV) • (Luke 9:62) But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (NKJV)

  8. We Leave the Lord When the Material takes Priority Over Spiritual • (Matthew 6:21) "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NKJV) • (Matthew 13:22) "Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. (NKJV)

  9. We Leave the Lord When the Material takes Priority Over Spiritual • (1 Timothy 6:9-10) But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (NKJV) • (Luke 12:15) And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." (NKJV)

  10. We Leave the Lord When We Lose Sight of What is Most Important • (Luke 12:18-21) • "So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."' "But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." (NKJV)

  11. We Leave the Lord When We Lose Sight of What is Most Important • (Matthew 16:26) • "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (NKJV)

  12. We Leave the Lord When We Desire to Be Like Others In the World • (1 Samuel 8:5-7) “...Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations." But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." So Samuel prayed to the LORD. And the LORD said to Samuel, "Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. (NKJV)

  13. We Leave the Lord When We Desire to Be Like Others In the World • (Titus 2:14) who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. (NKJV)

  14. We Leave the Lord When We Desire to Be Like Others In the World • (Romans 12:2) • And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)
