  2. Technological Progress • Because of China’s values towards education, they developed: • Manufacturing of paper in large quantities • Wood-block Printing • Movable Type • Made the first paper books • Record knowledge in a permanent form

Historical Influence • China’s technology would spread around the world • Paper-making spread to the Arab world • Chinese invented gunpowder for fireworks • Chinese invented the magnetic compass • Chinese exported porcelain (aka- China) • Chinese used tea for medicine, later would be sent to Europe

  4. Great Wall of China • wall built between 220–206 BC • First Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang • Used as a border patrol • Regulated trade • Regulated immigration • Wall has a variety of branches (over 13,000 miles)
